Council of Chaos

THE COUNCIL OF CHAOS IS RECRUITING

Behind every bookclub, social night, craft club, author event and questionable group chat decision is our Council of Chaos, the wonderful volunteers who help us make Fantasy Bookclub Scotland what it is.

And we're looking for our next crew!

The 2027 Council of Chaos will run for 12 months, bringing together bookclub hosts, social organisers, creatives and general agents of bookish mischief from across Scotland.

Whether you're passionate about bringing people together, creating content, taking photographs, organising adventures or simply want to help make FBS even more magical, there's probably a place for you here.

And yes, existing Council members are absolutely encouraged to apply again!

WHAT EXACTLY IS
THE COUNCIL OF CHAOS?
PHOTO-2026-08-16-21-43-50.jpg

The Council is our volunteer team helping us run and grow FBS behind the scenes.

You'll be part of a lovely bunch of bookish humans who help create the events, content and community that happen across Scotland, while also getting to know the people behind the usernames and making plenty of new bookish besties along the way.

This is a volunteer role. We don't expect anyone to be available 24/7, and we know life happens. We're looking for people who are reliable, enthusiastic and excited to contribute to the community.

As a member of the Council, you will receive free access to all bookclubs, a 12-month Patreon membership and discounted tickets to our larger events! Some roles will have additional benefits listed in the job description!

DIGITAL REALM HOST

Bring the bookclub to the Internet!

We're looking for an Online Host to lead our monthly virtual bookclub and make sure our online readers get just as much chaos, conversation and community as everyone else.

You'll host approximately one online bookclub per month, usually around 3–4 hours including preparation and hosting.

You'll help guide the discussion, welcome members into the conversation and make sure nobody is left shouting their theories into the void.

CONTENT & CREATIVE TEAM

Our Content & Creative Team helps capture the magic of FBS and turn it into the content you see across our social channels.

The team will capture events, create content, and dream up new ways to help the internet understand just how unhinged our TBRs are.

COUNCIL PHOTOGRAPHER

We want someone who sees a good photo opportunity approximately three seconds before everyone else.

You'll help photograph FBS events, capture community moments, take portraits and create beautiful images we can use across our website and social channels.

You don't need to be a professional photographer, but you'll need your own camera/equipment and a good eye for capturing people and atmosphere.

1 position, 2-3 hours per month + Large Events (Fantasy Balls, Book Launches, etc)

Open to all

COUNCIL VIDEOGRAPHER

Turn our bookish chaos into something people want to watch.

You'll help capture video at FBS events and create Reels, TikToks and other short-form content alongside the wider Content Team.

We're looking for someone who enjoys filming, editing and experimenting with video.

1 position, 2-3 hours per month + Large Events (Fantasy Balls, Book Launches, etc)

Open to all

SOCIAL MEDIA & CONTENT ASSISTANT

This is the role for someone who permanently has TikTok/Instagram open.

Help us keep FBS's social channels fresh, fun and slightly feral.

You'll work closely with Becca to:

✨ Find TikTok/Instagram trends
✨ Help create Reels and TikToks
✨ Make Canva graphics
✨ Suggest content ideas
✨ Help with captions and posts
✨ Turn our events into content
✨ Keep an eye on what's working online

You don't need to know everything about social media already, we want someone creative, enthusiastic and willing to experiment.

1 position, 5-6 hours per month

Open to all

SOCIAL EVENTS TEAM

Because sometimes we need to leave the bookclub and touch grass.

Our Social Events Team will help organise bookish adventures across Scotland.

Think brunches, pub nights, cinema trips, bookshop visits, walks, day trips, Christmas socials, festivals and whatever other nonsense we can come up with.

You'll help us turn ideas into actual plans, finding venues, coordinating dates, helping promote events and making sure nobody gets left standing awkwardly in a corner wondering where everyone went.

Multiple positions available, 3-4 hours per month. Open to all!

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're not looking for a particular type of person.

You don't need to be an influencer, professional event planner or seasoned bookclub host.

We're looking for people who are:

✨ Reliable
If you say you'll do something, we need to know we can count on you.

✨ Friendly & welcoming
FBS is about community. We want everyone to feel like they belong.

✨ Inclusive
We're proudly LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent-friendly and expect our Council to help us maintain that environment.

✨ Creative
We like people who have ideas — even the slightly ridiculous ones.

✨ Collaborative
Nobody is expected to do everything alone. The Council works as a team.

✨ Excited about FBS
You don't need to be our biggest fan. But you should genuinely want to help us make the community even better.
